Wine red dress with interwoven floral figures
ca.1855-58
Creation date: ca.1855-58
Material: silk
Technique: interweaving
Display status: viewing by appointment
This wine-red dress with interwoven floral motif emphasized the waistline by way of a wide skirt and a band of fringe in the shape of a V at the front and back of the bodice. A basque continuation has also been attached below the waist, giving more volume to the hips. The wide pagoda sleeves with flounced band and undersleeves are decorated with fringe. The dark Bordeaux colour of the dress is also typical of the period.
