Opulent Gold silk 1850s / 1860s Crinoline Bodice
An opulent bodice, designed to be worn as part of a crinoline ensemble, dating to the 1850s or 1860s. Made in a soft gold silk, woven all over with an abstract pattern similar to wavy sand on a beach when the tide goes out. A fabulous, sinuous hourglass with really nice seaming, a great piece of pattern cutting. The exaggerated silhouette is emphasised by the wide flaring peplum, which has a pleated frill edging, and the top front of body is padded, creating the sleek lines. The pagoda sleeves are lined with silk, and the inner cuff has a band pleats in a different gold silk. The shoulders are enhanced with layered pieces, and there are pom pom tassels decorating the sleeves and torso. The neck is trimmed with a wide crochet lace collar, fastenings are hooks and there is a single bone at centre front. The bodice looks to be hand sewn, possibly with some machining, and is lined with polished cotton.
The images make the fabric look more yellow than it is,the close ups are more accurate.
