Gold brooch set cabochon almandine garnet. A superimposed diamond set band of gold holds looped chains from which a tasselled pendant, made of silky gold chain set with garnet and diamonds. The circle is bordered with plated gold wire at the outer edge and round the setting of central stone. This piece with its very fine cabochon garnets, known as 'carbuncles', and its 'Old Mine' cut diamonds with their brilliant fire, is characteristic of British taste in the 1860s.
